People, Fortune Telling and Astrology
by Ashutosh Agnihotri
The uninitiated is not aware of the large difference between astrology, palmistry and numerology. I've had many instances in the past where people asked me to "read" their horoscopes and shoved me their palms instead.
At this point in your life when you're undertaking the real opportunity to study authentic astrology, share your learning with others. Help clarify matters by sharing your knowledge with others who need clarification. The following is a brief on the main differences between palmistry, astrology, and numerology.
Palmistry
Before astrology came into my life, I was assisting my famous father to do the menial task of taking the palm prints of his famous clients. Palmistry provides for a very powerful analysis of personality traits. It is easier to know of a character's personality habits with palmistry than any other model. The good thing about palmistry is, you carry the reading material wherever you go. And there's no hiding. The whole palm may be read; from the bracelets, right to the tips of the fingers. From the back of the hand that easily reveals almost 40% of the person, right to the palm of the hand that reveals almost everything else that may be revealed in the make-up of the individual's destiny.
But after a long time, even dad would agree that palmistry is probably the best model that may reveal the cycles of the person's potentials relative to the seeds of his current consciousness and contemplations. It is not so revealing with "distant" probability tracks that may be initiated by sudden or unexpected change agents. Depending on the personality type, context, and responses to major, recent events, the orb the palm covers might be one or two years before or after the current period, or even more. Even that orb is difficult to determine in an absolute manner even though the palmist may continue with his reading presuming nothing comes along to kick a radical change into gear. But for instant readings, palmistry is it.
When we took palm prints before, they were especially for record keeping. You just can't record the texture and feel of one's palm, whether fleshy or lean, damp or dry. That has to be done with the person's hands in yours. So what do you need in palmistry? You need hands. And even when you have them, you wish you can get a deeper peek at a more reliable blueprint.
Astrology
Astrology, for the most part, requires birth data. You would need the birth date, birth time, and birth place of the event of birth of a person. You do that because you have to construct a horoscope.
There's mathematics involved, because astrology uses astronomy as its fundamental. Astrology makes use of a system whereby it reads the positions of the planets at the time a certain event occurs (generally in natal astrology, that would be the time of birth of a person). Those positions are actually a picture of the planets in our galazy during the moment of the individual's birth. That's all the horoscope is. A picture of the heavens during the birth of the individual.
As such, there is no physical "feel" about astrology to begin with. So the beginning of astrology is basic astronomy. Astrology begins when that personal astronomical configuration of the person, called a horoscope, is read to reflect probable events in real-world living. Biggest problem with astrology: you need reliable data to begin with. And even if the astrologer does birth rectification to determine a more reliable birth time, it still relies on a given or proposed time. So what do we need in astrology? The most fundamental particulars are; birth date, birth time, and birth place. If any astrologer tells you otherwise, he may be good with his psychism, but he's doing bad astrology. Anything else the astrologer would require must be to add to these fundamental particulars.
Numerology
This relies on the presence of numbers. While everything about us reveals almost something about us, numbers appear to have a life of their own. Most commonly used, would be the birth day and date. Then the full birth date would be considered, and that would be followed by a plethora of suggestions for 'calculataions' depending on which system you use.
Problem is: with numerology, almost too many things can be included in one sweeping statement. But I am careful with this. My own extensive experiments in numerology have personally shown me a greater success in postmortem analysis than making insightful projections before hand. However, it is important to say that when you study astrology, your numerology gets better, but not vice versa. My experience with numerology and the various systems available only goes back about 30 years and I haven't finished my experiments and observations yet. At one time, I spent many years incorporating numerological tactics into my horary astrology. Unfortunately, the majority of my questions were unanswered as I could not put a finger on any consistency in the analysis procedure. My work continues with this.
When people talk about divination subjects as the above, they eventually get down to talking about psychics and psychic powers. Many have come to believe that these things are gifts, and that only spiritually arrived people are able to make revelations. This is a severe misconception. Psychism is just the ability to use subtler sense that already exist in us. We are energy entities, bundles of forces that operate in many ways, at many levels. Our study of this is incomplete even though some of the more recognized universities have encouragingly started initiating seats in parapsychology openly. Psychism is a gift to individuals just as he is already gifted with the miracle of many talents. One's psychic ability is no measure of spiritual maturity, but simply an indication that his other intelligences have been charged or awakened due to some psycho-physiological connection that can be initiated by many causes. Institutes now exist to prove this as they bring out the psychism in anyone over a weekend course. And making revelations? Local bomohs or shamans are doing that with matches. Many cultures through time have been doing it, and their shaman advisors are no more intelligent or spiritually knowledgeable or aware than the average modern person.
When you study astrology, you are in a position to view the fallacy of the above misconceptions first hand. Studying astrology, you can differentiate the objective from the generally subjective. Applying good attitude with aptitude, you would be able to apply a consistent methodology to reproduce and anticipate success. Soon, because of the connecting thread between astrology and the other subjects, you will be able to better discern when you want to use what tools, even though you may likely develop a personal reference over the subjects as a personal favourite mode for your personal analysis.
Today, while my favorite model remains to be astrology, and within it I have my own specialization, I freely use whatever tools present themselves to me. The first time I meet a person, my palmistry comes forward and I scrutinize the hands, I see the face and suspect certain astrological configurations that can produce that kind of face, ratio and symmetry between face divisions, speech style, walking style, first few utterances. If I see his car, I check out the numbers and letters (hoping the car is his), and so on. And finally, if he's serious, since I don't bring up the subject of astrology first, and he asks for a reading, then I get serious about the full birth particulars.
If he fools around, then I lay back, do some small talk on astrological preliminaries, make no arguments, and wait. His need will reflect his response. If there is no urgency, then I continue with my life, and he should continue with his. If his response reflects a dire need, then I try hard to help by sharaing little personal realizations on how better to deal with astrology and astrologer. I get his email and send him some good stuff on how to start.
