Testosterone affects strength not healing. Healing of muscle is a five stage process:
- 1. Injury (the initial injury)
- 2. Inflammation (the response to injury)
- 3. Debridement (sloughing away of dead tissue)
- 4. Repair (gradual healing process)
- 5. Remodeling (reshaping of tissue with time)
Testosterone increases can help with strength, but it does not speed up the process of muscle healing.
Q: I want to know if it is possible to raise the level of testosterone in the body to speed up muscle repair? If testosterone does affect how fast the body heals itself, does this ability decrease with age?
A: Resistance training can increate testosterone levels, but it will not increase the rate of muscle repair. The body ability to heal itself decreases with age because of changes in the tissues.
