How does bookless library work without electricity

...lose electricity...lose the book! Want to write notes in your favorite text? Forget it!
Drop a book while walking home, pick it up dust it off...drop your iPad, Kindle, etc...go without at least for a while, and maybe you can restore all your old books and subscriptions...Book get stolen...pay $25.00 and get another...iPad stolen, forgot to activate tracking...go find several hundred dollars and start over!

Want the author to 'sign' the book he wrote that you own...OOOOPS! ETc, etc, etc....

Idiocy. That's like saying: "Lose electricity...lose the internet!!!"

The other thing that worries me about this is that it couples all our knowledge to the availability of the electrical grid. If that became unavailable due to some unforeseen event, what then?

Uhm, yes you can do that (quite easily) with Kindle/iPad and even older eReaders you can always bookmark your pages.

My eReader I've dropped at least a dozen times, thing is built like a tank. Love it.

"Want the author to 'sign' the book he wrote that you own" I guess authors will do what movie/tv celebrities have been doing for ages...bring a stack of 8x10 black and white lobby cards/photos and autograph them for $20 a shot.

Also, signing an eBook is totally doable...again: "There's an app for that"

Books are just a MEDIUM. I didn't see too many people cry when VHS was replaced by DVD, or audio cassettes were replaced by CD.

eReaders are clearly the future for the majority of reading, it's long overdue and paper based libraries are simply too big/too old and TOO MUCH A FIRE HAZARD.

Drop a book in the mud? Forget it. Drop my iPad in the mud, wipe it off. Loose the book binding? Forget it! Lose electric? Put on my 6 hours battery. Book get stolen? No way, nobody wants it. iPad get stolen? GPS track him down and beat him up. Want the author to sign the book? Download the author signature.
