Straight from a celebrity - IRS wants $600,000 in taxes based on Nic Cage giving away more than $1.8 million dollars in gifts.
UPDATE: Nicolas Cage just gave TMZ the following statement: "Over the course of my career I have paid at least $70 million in taxes. Unfortunately, due to a recent legal situation, another approximate $14 million is owed to the IRS, however, I am under new business management and am happy to say that I am current for 2009. All taxes will be paid including any to be determined state taxes."
My questions:
- What did Nic Cage do so wrong as to be penalized like that?
- Is bad acting that big of a crime?
People can do horrible things, and owe less to the government in fines than what Nicholas is being fined.....
According to another article, the IRS only cares about gifts over $13,000 in cash and goods per individual in 2009, but only if the total of all your gifts exceeds $1 million. IF they do, they want a 35% tax from the giver.
