2005 Toyota Avalon
| How to get going if the battery in the remote keyfrob fails... If the battery in the remote should fail, you would use the mechanical key to enter the car. You would then hold the back of the remote (where the letter T is, the Toyota symbol) up against the Stop/Start switch while applying the brake. When the green light on the Start/Stop switch comes on, tap the button to start the engine, then lay the remote aside. By touching the keyfrob directly to the start button, the car can read the chip. |
| Just got a callback from a helpful man at http://www.carandtruckremotes.com He says beware of getting a used remote for this car, because this particular Toyota smart remote can not be reprogrammed! Once it is programmed to talk to one car, that is it, it can't be programmed to talk to any other car! He claims the only source is the Toyota factor who charges $210 for it wholsale, and he doesn't feel anyone would want to pay enough for it to give any reasonable profit to him. |

The keyless remote uses a 3V battery.
Price for replacement ranges from $300 at dealer (including blank emergency key, but not including the cost of programming), to $99 for the remote with no emergency key. Can occassionally get them on auction sites for $45-$60 (with the emergency key already being cut for the car the remote was previously paired with.)
KeylessEntryStore.com 678-528-1700 866-690-4308 claims that very few remotes actually require a trip to the dealer.
Example programming instructions for an Avalon that has a keyed ignition - http://www.programyourremote.com/classified/DisplayAd.asp?id=1212
Capital Toyota in San Jose charges $140 for the programming of the remote, but they will cut an emergency key for free.
The remote has an FCC ID: HYQ14AAF and IC: 1551A-14AAF Denso
