The Confluence Watchdog For Linux helps keep your Confluence online by analyzing for conditions that indicate a restart is needed. The watchdog can be started via cron job to perform a regular analysis of the health of your Confluence installation. It logs the results of its analysis for later study.
When a restart is needed, the Watchdog asks Confluence for thread dumps, then forces Confluence to close, gathers all the logs into a separate directory, and then restarts Confluence with a clean set of log directories.
