Decide whether to write about topics you have no personal interest in...

  • Some people can do this easily.
  • Think like a magazine editor, or the range of topics covered in a magazine
  • Personal interest or business purpose?
    • Personally chosen topics Things you have passion for, regardless of whether they are high paying
Business Interest Market researching niches and writing about them.
  • Genre: Learn with me Example: Someone learning to make a movie, and writing about their mistakes along the way.

Author needs to consider their own skill set and talents.

Instead of writing own content, or scraping content, or paying ghost writers:

  • Get community members to contribute articles

Some reasons looking at dollar value of the topic might cause a problem:

  • Higher value topics will have more competition
  • Lower value topics may be easier to rank well for
  • Getting to know your topic is more important

Some areas within topic to write articles about:

  • Anything free related to your topics
Garnet's Examples: My highest selling Amazon theme bookstore, per visitor, was a tiny niche site on the movie "Citizen Kane".

After writing the sites

  • Be sure to concentrate on SEO

Garnet's favorite: I'm researching something new, and keeping notes about what I found.

Can you find a way to let your users chose topics for you?
