Took the take back my life class... Pretty cool... I'm now devoting two laptops to techniques taught in the class to organize your tasks, make commitments you can keep, and get your inbox emptied.....

One problem is that now outlook reminder dialog pops up with 40 scheduled things I was supposed to do..... But at least my office inbox is finally under 500 messages.... I cheated on emptying my personal inbox. I just started a new inbox file. My old one had grown 2.2 gigabytes.

The class never mentioned using "outlook rules", but the class did mention that you should cut down on the number of collection points you have. So I used to have outlook rules to sort my friends and business associates emails into different folders. That was nice because answering them would get the answers put into the folder with their message. But the problem is that I had to remember to check all of those folders. I've now decided the only use for outlook rules is to sort things that don't require personal action, like incoming newsletter emails, and to never use rules to sort emails from friends or clients that I might need to react to. Emails from friends and business associates should remain in my inbox. I should make the sorting of their emails a manual step as I am emptying my inbox, I can sort their emails to the right folders.
