| March 10, 2008 || SEMICONDUCTORS || Linear Regulator Cuts Standby Power By 50% || With a 500-nA quiescent current, stated as the industry's lowest for an LDO regulator, the 150-mA TPS780xx LDOs include a voltage select pin, giving designers the ability to switch between two voltage levels to customize and cut power consumption in half during operation. The devices require no external parts to implement dynamic voltage scaling for an eight-bit, 16-bit, or other MCU design. They remain stable with any output capacitor greater than 0.1uF and come in six-pin, 2 mm x 2 mm SON packages. Other features include a typical dropout of 250 mV at 150 mA, 3% typical accuracy over load/line/temperature, adjustable or fixed output voltages ranging from 0.8V to 5.0V, thermal shutdown, and over-current protection. Pricing is $0.75 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.

600V Trench IGBTs Reduce Power |
The IRGB40xx family of 600V trench IGBTs reportedly reduces power dissipation by up to 30% in uninterruptible power supply and solar inverter applications up to 3 kW. The devices employ the latest-generation field stop trench technology to reduce conduction and switching losses and are optimized for switching at 20 kHz with low short-circuit requirements. Co-packaged with ultra-fast soft recovery diodes, the IGBT family exhibits a lower collector-to-emitter saturation voltage and total switching energy than punch-through and non-punch-through type IGBTs. In addition, the ultra-fast soft recovery diode promises to improve efficiency and reduce EMI. Prices range from $0.68 to $2.79 each/10,000. For more information, contact Graham Robertson at INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER, El Segundo, CA. (310) 726-8512.

SMT Tactile Switches Offer Two Actuator Lengths |
The CS3304 series momentary surface-mount tactile switches offer gull wing or J-lead terminations and a choice of two actuator lengths: 2.6 mm and 3.4 mm in height or 6.2 mm square. The actuators and housings are made of 4/6 nylon with steel covers, contacts are silver plated phosphor bronze, and the terminals are silver plated brass. Specs include an electrical life of 100,000 cycles, current rating of 50 mA at 48 Vdc, contact resistance of less than 50 milliOhms initial, a dielectric strength of 1 kVrms minimum with an insulation resistance greater than 100 [MegaOhms] minimum, an actuation force is 160 ± 50 gF with a travel of 0.25 mm ± 0.1 mm, and an operating and storage temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Volume pricing starts at $0.12 each. CIT RELAY & SWITCH, Maple Grove, MN. (763) 535-2339.

Optical Mouse Sensor Packs Several Features In Tiny Package |
Optimized for LED-based corded mouse applications, the ADNS-5050 optical mouse comes in what is said to be one of the industry's smallest packages with several built-in features and enhanced tracking performance. Precision optical alignment is not required, making it easy to install and suitable for high volume assembly. Additionally, the sensor is a drop-in replacement for the company's ADNS-5020-EN mouse sensor. The ADNS-5050 along with the ADNS-5100/5100-001 lens, ADNS-5200 clip, and HLMP-ED80 LED light source form a complete tracking system with no moving parts. The ADNS-5050 is capable of motion detection at 30 ips and acceleration up to 8g. It also includes an on-chip oscillator and LED driver to minimize external components and an adjustable frame rate. Resolution is adjustable from 125 cpi to 1,375 cpi via a 125 cpi step. Pricing for the ADNS-5050 is less than $1 each in high volume. AVAGO TECHNOLOGIES, San Jose, CA. (800) 235-0312.

Probe Keeps Pace With Speedy DSA Scope |
Complementing the 20-GHz DSA72004 digital serial analyzer (DSA) oscilloscope, the P7520 probe matches the DSA for bandwidth and features a fast rise time, low circuit loading, and the company's [TriMode] measurement switching. The DSA72004/P7520 combo allows users to debug and validate the third harmonic of 10 Gb/s signals and perform compliance testing to the fifth harmonic on signals up to 8 Gb/s including PCI-Express 3, SATA Gen-3, and HDMI 1.3. [TriMode] technology supports switching between differential, single-ended, and common mode measurements without moving probe connections, providing the ability to probe three points simultaneously and make three different measurements with one probe and one setup. Interchangeable probe tip modules provide miniature solder-in tips, interchangeable extension cables, and a needle-nose handheld style probe module. Pricing for the P7520 is $16,900. TEKTRONIX INC., Beaverton, OR. (800) 426-2200.
