Terry Gross interviewed the author of "Suicide Bombers in Iraq", on the topic of martyrs without borders.
The author made these points:
- Ku'ran says that Muslims who take a Christian or Jewish boss are considered to be no longer Muslim. (Editors note: This shows that Muslims will never co-exist with other groups, since the Muslim mindset is that everyone else must be subservient, they consider it a grave dishonor to take a position under any non-Muslim.)
- Suicide bombers are cheap smart bombs
- To date there have been over 1000 suicide attacks around the world.
- Psychology of suicide bombing
- Usually an attack on innocent people directs outrage at the targetting of innocent people.
- A suicide bombing turns around the normal focus on atrocity to the innocent victims to get attention on the "hopelessness" of the attacker, and changes the debate to wondering what was it in the attackers environment and upbringing to "cause" them to do this act. (Editors note: The attacker is recast as a "victim", on a equal standing with the people that they murder.)
- Danger of the ideology of martyrdom is that it is so malleable, it can easily be twisted to apply to different situations.
Terry allowed the author to speak without interfering with the information he wanted to present.
