City of New Haven Giving Identity Cards to Illegals
City of Miami giving out IDs to everyone, including illegal aliens. They want banks to accept these IDs so that illegals can have an easier time opening bank accounts and dealing with the police. All 125,000 residents will receive the new identity cards. New Haven is estimated to have 10,000 to 12,000 illegal immigrants. These cards are intended to allow illegals to do things they can't do without a drivers license or state-issued ID card. the city claims these cards will help illegal immigrant crime victims get police help.
"You can't police a community of people who won't talk to our cops," says Mayor John [DeStefano].
Editors note: How about, "You can't police a community of people who are breaking the law by pretending that they aren't."
The mayor claims the federal system lack of handling of immigration related issues is forcing cities to come up with their own solutions.
The city will get $10 in revenue for each adult card, and $5 for each child card.
The city claimed that ICE raids that netted 30 arrests appeared to be federal retalliation for the city officials approval of the program.
Editors note: So when the Federal government does try to do some cleanup on the situation, it's being retaliatory?

"ICE is mandated by Congress to enforce a wide range of immigration and customs laws and we will continue to enforce those laws in Connecticut and throughout the U.S.," the agency said in a statement. |
Editors note: It's about time they wake up and start enforcign the existing laws.
Current poll
is running 80% to 20% against this idea:

| Do you think it's a good idea to offer ID cards to illegal immigrants? |
No - 80% - 16778 |
Yes - 20% - 4277 |
Many problems:
- Unsophisticated employers thinking these are a work permit.
- To what extent is the address information verified?
- Yet another way for the city taxing authorities to create problems for legal residents.

Editors Note: Was heard as the City of Miami giving these cards. It is not known if they are considering, or have implemented, a similar program.
Some Comments:
- Uh-huh. This describes the "thinking" of those at Yale perfectly. Think what a BETRAYAL it is of American workers to INVITE people from Guatemala, Mexico, Somalia, Haiti-
all of the poor of the worldto live here. We CANNOT "solve" the poverty problem of the world-it will destroy us to try.
- No ID until legalized. If legalization is temporary, a chip be imbedded so can be found when time is up. IF legalization should be part of some kind of intracountry agreement, chip wouldn't be needed unless we see that each country needs to know who is where at any point in time. With terrorism a threat, all countries will be going to something like this to run fast checks for who is here legally and who isn't and where they are, etc.
- If the government is close enough to the illegals to hand them an ID card why can they not enforce the laws of this country on immigration?? What gives these people the right to think they have ANY rights in this country?? They know how to get here legally but refuse. I guess the only people that have to obey the laws of this country are the legal citizens.
