What do you think about the issue of exposing children to witchcraft through books like the Harry Potter series?
Armstrong and Getty Radio Talk Show Hosts Opinions
On July 23rd, on the Armstrong and Getty radio talk show, Jack and Joe interviewed Steve Wohlberg, the author of Avoid Harry Potter, about his new book "Exposing Harry Potter and Witchcraft".
Jack & Joe let Steve Wohlberg give his view, and then after he was all off the phone, they ridiculed the idea.
Steve says that there is real evidence that children, after reading Harry Potter, then graduate to more serious books on Wicca and witchcraft. Armstrong and Getty mentioned the debunking of Houdini, but Steve told them that is very different than what is going on with witchcraft. Steve also says that playing with Oija boards has led to possession by evil spirits, and relates the story about an author who, after she played with a Oija board in 1963, had a spirit enter into her, and she wrote 8 volumes of the "Seth materials", which experts say have such a different writing style they couldn't have been written by the same person.
"I never can tell if these things are a real controversy or not," said Jack.
Jack and Joe related how they were definitely buying the book for their kids. Jack and Joe fall into the group of people who deny the reality of the supernatural.
Unfortunately many Christians are also blind to the reality of demons
A caller said "I knew that there would be a backlash from my fellow Christians.... What about the wizard of Oz? What about C.S. Lewis?"
Joe responded, "I don't see how this is competing with Christianity."
Caller, "This is distracting us from serving one another.... "
Joe, "If your kid has a soft skull, it's not mine." Jack, "There are so many battles to fight, to worry about Harry Potter, good gosh."
Another caller feels that some kids at risk will find a way into trouble
Another caller related how his cousin got involved into a Dungeons and Dragons, and this lead to getting involved in a cult group 20 years ago, and there was a murder case with his cousin ending up dead at the base of a cliff. Some will blaim Dungeons and Dragons like the blaim Harry Potter today, but children at risk are going to be children at risk irregardless. It could turn into a gateway to getting the child involved with people who will exploit children, but perhaps the child is seeking something they didn't find at home.
Are children at risk from books like Harry Potter?
What do you think?

I think that many people hear the words wizard or witch and go off the deep end into Satanism. They for get about not only the Wizard of Oz, but Hanzel and Gretel, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and even some of the traditional nursery rhymes that generations were put to bed with. As far as Harry Potter is concerned, people are missing the fact that not only is it a good read, but the author has covered a wide range of problems that the children of today face everyday, e.g. teachers they feel are unfair, homework, bullies, the day-to-day struggle of doing right or what feels easiest. She also addresses bigotry, and domestic abuse. These so-called Christians would do better to look for the positive aspects of things in general, instead of the negative and trying to ban everything. Didn't society find itself in trouble by engaging in banning somewhere back in history?!?
