A GROWING PLANT
Have at least one plant in the schoolroom. See that it is kept in good condition and in a neat place. Its influence will be felt. A table near the window covered with a clean piece of linen on which a thrifty plant stands will become an essential part of the daily school life. It does not matter what kind of plant is used for this purpose but I would suggest a geranium. It will stand the cold better than other plants and the bright color of the blossom will attract and please the children.
In order to encourage daily observation of the life of a plant, the pupils might keep a record of it during the remainder of the school year. For one of the language lessons they might write a description of the plant: Kind; size of pot; height of plant; number of leaves, buds, blossoms; whether the leaves all turn in one direction for light, etc. It may be necessary to transplant it and if so, a description of the process would give good material for a written or oral lesson in language. —Alice G.
