William Miller born in Puttsfield, Mass., February 1782; died in Low Hampton, N.Y., Dec. 20 1849. Receiving a captain's commission, he entered the army in 1810. On his return from the army, he moved to Low Hampton, N.Y. in 1812. From infidelity, he finally became an earnest student of the Bible. In 1836 his lectures on the prophecies and the second advent were printed in some of the public journls of the day and were aterward issued in book and pamphlet form. His work, culminating in the gret Advent Movement of 1840-44, resulted in an increased interest in the study of the Bible, particularly of the prophecies. Contemporary of Joseph Bates.
