Ben and all, from the other side of the God is Truth - Science is Truth coin - you mentioned areas of seeming Truth outside the realm of our understanding as it pertains to physics.. heres a couple spins on what we tend to not know (that we don't know) as it pertains to emotions and feelings and their influence on Truth (and unity.) I am reading a book titled Evil an Investigation, by Lance Morrow. In this book there are many pearls but I especially like two that he speaks of. |
1. That anger (feelings only) dispels Truth.I have seen this in my own life two ways. One is that when I am angry I tend to over look it's consequences. This should have us resolve to be disciplined to not get angry outside of what we cannot control.(our connection to Truth?) As in "be angry but sin not". Forgiveness is key here as forgiveness dispels anger( a trait that I was never modeled. My folks were angry in subtle ways and never really cognizant of it's impact. The other way I have watched it impact me is the way that if we live from an emotional (feelings) center rather than a Truth grounded one we are then attacked more by folks that also live their lives from a feelings center as these people tend instinctively to find each other as a "safe" target as the Truth will not be around for any conviction. |
2. Evil Masquerading As Injured InnocenceThe other thing Lance says in this book that set my head to spinning is this statement. "Evil portrays itself almost without exception as injured innocence, fighting back." Wow does that dredge up thoughts that I have not thunk before.!? No wonder the farther we get from Truth the more angry and victimized we think we have reason to be.. A reason in itself to be disciplined and to walk the narrow path and start each day asking for guidance. |
This stuff brings up questions like; to what degree is it a mature Christian that refuses to show any anger? To me looking at Christ's life answers the question as Jesus was certainly not free of emotion and did on a number of occasions become quite angry. So then is maturity an issue of Truth or feelings? I would say in this day of people living strictly from their feelings side that with out an attachment to the One who created us we cannot be effective from either side.
My goal is to not be mature in such a manner that I have left my emotions aside as many times evil makes large strides when I do.. yet I pray for real Truth's guidance to know when and where to pick my battles and how to make them in such a way that they advance Truth and what unity it will allow.
