Can Babies Be Self Centered Before They Have Self Identity

If babies are born selfish, does that mean that at birth, they already have formed a sense of self identity? If not then at what age do they acquire a sense of self so as to characterize them as selfish? And if that is the case, what do you call that period after birth and before they acquire a sense of self to explain selfish behaviors? Still selfish? Would that not be a contradiction is terms? This of course could lead to a "selfish free zone" and could lead to another round of polarized discussion.

I can already see heaven rejoicing because we are all indeed using every bit of brain cells the Good Lord created in us.
