It seems to me that there's confusion over the term "evolution." Evolution, as the term is used in science today, means more than "change." Even in non-scientific language, the idea of "progression" or "greater complexity" is usually inherent in the term "evolution," although there are exceptions to such usage.
The biblical account implies that all the genetic material for the wonderful diversity in the human race that we see today was in Adam and Eve. No evolution was required for the current diversity. What we see when a population is isolated from the rest of the population is actually a loss of diversity and a loss of genetic material. This is evident in human populations as well as in animal populations. Each specific "new species" has lost some of the potential of the original more varied species. (Darwin's finches were not the product of upward evolution but an example of speciation into specialized populations adapted to their environment.)
