Does Habbakuk 2:20 Require Literal Silence In The House Of God?
I had an aunt who was attracted to the Catholic church "because it is so quiet, you can hear a pin drop."
This was in criticism of her visits to our little church (quiet by today's standards) a place where children's voices could be heard and occasional quiet conversation between adults.
I wonder how it became popular to interpret Hab 2:20 as requiring literal silence in God's presence instead of a ready spirit waiting for and anticipating His communication.
We seem to be so awfully critical of most Catholic practice, but their definition of reverence as it applies to their mass is the very epitome of desirable behaviour in our churches. (At least it is sometimes deemed so.)
