Originally I had expected Lesson 1 of this study quarter to deal with the subject of the Bible being the Word of God. The lesson touched on this subject from a number of different directions but did not seem to stick to a logical approach. I was expecting something more along the lines of the traditional SDA study guides that begin by establishing the Bible as the unquestionable Word of God. This would have been a direction I would have leaned towards if I had been preparing a lesson plan.
Following is a list of Bible text I have used in preparing a study centered around the subject of "The Bible, the Word of God."
Bible
KJV 1 Thessalonians 2:13
- For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
KJV Psalms 119:11
- Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
KJV 1 Peter 1:19-21
- 19. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20. Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21. Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
KJV Psalms 119:160
- Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.
KJV Psalms 12:6-7
- 6. The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
- 7. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
KJV 1 Corinthians 2:12-14
- 12. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
- 13. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
- 14. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
KJV Isaiah 28:7-16
- 7. But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
- 8. For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.
- 9. Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
- 10. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a
little: - 11. For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
- 12. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
- 13. But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
- 14. Wherefore hear the word of the Lord, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.
- 15. Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
- 16. Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
KJV John 12:46-50
- 46. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
- 47. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
- 48. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
- 49. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
KJV Romans 15:4
- For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
KJV Proverbs 1:2-7
- 2. To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
- 3. To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
- 4. To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
- 5. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
- 6. To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. * 7. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
KJV John 5:39
- Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
KJV John 5:46-47
- 46. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
- 47. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
KJV Acts 3:24
- Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.
KJV Acts 17:11
- These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
KJV Romans 15:4
- For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
KJV 2 Peter 1:20-21
- 20. Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
- 21. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
KJV 2 Timothy 3:15-17
- 15. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
- 16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
- 17. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
