25-October 2010
PLEASE READ: When we established Adobe AIR Marketplace three years ago, there were few distribution opportunities for AIR developers. There are now several app stores on desktops, mobile devices and tablets that service AIR developers including Apple App Store, Android Market, BlackBerry App World, Intel AppUp center, Samsung Apps, and Toshiba App Place.
After careful consideration, Adobe has decided to discontinue development and support of Adobe AIR Marketplace. We are, therefore, not accepting any new applications into Adobe AIR Marketplace. The Adobe AIR Marketplace will be shut down on August 31, 2011. We encourage you to use these newer popular app stores to distribute your applications. As before, Adobe will continue to provide the best technologies and solutions so that developers and publishers can create, distribute and monetize content.
My application was free and distributed to users through Adobe AIR Marketplace. Will users continue to use the application?
If users have downloaded and installed your free application, then these users can continue to use the application even after Adobe AIR Marketplace is shutdown. If users have not installed the app before August 31, 2011, users will not be able to install from the Adobe AIR Marketplace and use the application.
My application was not free and there are users who purchased my app. Will they be able to continue to use the application?
If users have installed and paid for your application before August 31, 2011, then these users can continue to use the application even after the Adobe AIR Marketplace is shut down. If your application was using try and buy, then applications can be tried or purchased on or before August 31, 2011. Applications cannot be purchased after August 31, 2011.
Will users be able to purchase my paid application going forward?
After August 31, 2011, users will not be able to purchase your application through AIR Marketplace. You must find an alternative method to distribute and sell your application. One of the options is to use Intel AppUp to distribute and sell your desktop applications.
Can I distribute application upgrades?
You will not be able to distribute application upgrades through Adobe AIR Marketplace.
What will happen to settlements?
For all the applications sold, you will receive your pending settlements for apps sold before August 31, 2011 soon after that date.
I submitted my application directly through AIR Marketplace. How do I download analytics?
After you log into your Publisher Account on AIR Marketplace, you will find “Reports” tab. Reports for AIR Marketplace will be available until August 31, 2011 (please remember to log in before this date).

What is the Adobe AIR Marketplace?
Adobe AIR Marketplace is a place where AIR developers can publish their Adobe AIR applications for users to download. You can find the Adobe AIR Marketplace at http://airmarketplace.adobe.com.^top
Why should I post my application to the Adobe AIR Marketplace?
The Adobe AIR Marketplace is easy to use and helps consumers find and download applications built on Adobe AIR. The Adobe AIR Marketplace:
- Makes your applications available to millions of potential users.
- Helps ensure that users have the best installation experience by installing the AIR runtime (if they don't already have it) along with your application.
- Offers users the opportunity to give you valuable feedback on your application through ratings, reviews, and comments.
- Gives users the option to subscribe to RSS feeds from the Marketplace.
- Provides users with a link to share an interesting offering with a friend.^top
What features does the Adobe AIR Marketplace offer?
The Adobe AIR Marketplace:
- Allows you to create a profile on the Marketplace for self-promotion.
- Lets you post your application for download, including your own application description, application icon, and screen shot.
- Gives you an option to host the application on the Marketplace.
- Provides you with a dashboard to view metrics, including number of downloads, ratings, reviews, and comments.
- Allows users to download your application and share with a friend.
- Lets users browse through categories or search for applications.
- Gives users the option to rate and review your applications.
- Promotes different applications by featuring items on a rotating basis and providing RSS feeds to users.^top
Does it cost me anything to post my application to the Adobe AIR Marketplace?
No. Adobe offers the Adobe AIR Marketplace as a free service to Adobe AIR developers.^top
What is a publisher to the Adobe AIR Marketplace?
Any developer who wants to submit his or her app to the Adobe AIR Marketplace is considered a publisher to the Adobe AIR Marketplace.^top
What is an offering on the Adobe AIR Marketplace?
An offering is an application that a publisher posts to the Adobe AIR Marketplace.^top
Will my application be visible on the Marketplace as soon as I submit it?
No. Your submission will be reviewed by Adobe before it is posted. Normally your application should be posted within seven to ten business days. If there are any questions regarding your submission, Adobe will contact you via the e-mail address you provided as a part of the submission process.^top
Will Adobe host my Adobe AIR application file on the Adobe AIR Marketplace?
Yes. Adobe will host the application file, description, and images related to your application. If you want to host the application on your site, you can provide a link to your application's AIR file on your site. If the user does not have the version of the Adobe AIR runtime that your application requires, the Adobe AIR Marketplace will integrate the installation of the necessary Adobe AIR runtime with the installation of your application. You do not need to host the Adobe AIR runtime.^top
Why do I have to register to become a publisher to the Adobe AIR Marketplace before I can submit an AIR application?
Registering with the Adobe AIR Marketplace lets you create a profile. This profile is displayed next to your application and will help you promote yourself on the Adobe AIR Marketplace. If users click the name that is associated with your offering, they will see your full profile with all the offerings associated with your profile. You have to register only once. When registered, you can submit your offerings to the Adobe AIR Marketplace.^top

Few people, if any, other than AIR developers have ever heard of the Adobe AIR Marketplace.
This makes selling on the Adobe AIR Marketplace unattractive.
However, there are plenty of other online retailer locations where customers can purchase digital downloads. If Adobe were to partner with some of these retailers so that the Adobe InMarket service for monetization of Adobe AIR applications for PC and Mac could be used with high-traffic, high-visibility retailers, then AIR would gain more widespread use - which would be helpful for Adobe, and helpful for AIR developers.
As it is, the existing offering is next to useless.

I am only a new user so I think with Adobe AIR I am going to benefit more from your upgrading. - Michael Koch(Moderator)August 4, 2011
@TYeboah: Please note, as stated in the introduction to this FAQ, the Adobe AIR Marketplace will be shut down on August 31, 2011. No new applications will be accepted. Sorry about the inconvenience.

OK-I purchased a lifetime membership to KIDOZ.NET prior to August, 2011. With my being a single mom, I've not a lot of control over my time. Upon downloading the KIDOZ.NET application to install using the .air installer-I've finally (Oct. 4, 2011) landed here to discover the "discontinued" news.
What are my options? P.S. Kidoz.net will not reply to email inquiries.
Grateful for any direction,
